David Queller & Co.
- The First Hundred Years
David Queller and Co. has evolved over three generations.
The company was founded by Harry Queller, David's father, after he arrived in
New York City as an immigrant in 1905. Harry sold hardware from a storefront in
downtown Manhattan.
David Queller studied mechanical
engineering and, upon returning from naval service after WWII, had the vision
to shift the focus of his father's retail business from hardware to industrial
cutting and precision tools.
After a number of expansions, David started to
develop a "wholesale only" business. He set out to establish
relationships with well known American brand manufacturers who needed a
warehouse in New York that would stock their products and service only
distributors. This business model allowed distributors the assurance of knowing
that David Queller & Co. was strictly wholesale and could, therefore, be
trusted to make direct shipments to their customers when necessary.
David sought quality lines and
filled his warehouse with inventory. Now, with one phone call, distributors
could get both popular and hard-to-find items from many manufacturers delivered
promptly.
David Queller backed up this plan
with a knowledgeable staff and competitive pricing. The business thrived. In
1981, David Queller & Co. outgrew its warehouse in New York and moved to
its current location, a modern 32,000 square foot facility on two acres in
Kenilworth, New Jersey.
| Howard Queller, David's
son, joined the company at this time and has been the driving force moving the
company forward into the 21st century through marketing, technology and the
internet. David Queller has
retired and proudly passed the baton to his son. Howard Queller and his staff
will continue to provide distributors with quality products and service for
many years to come.
