UPS Report Says Traditional Distribution Model Faces Risks

Asset-light e-marketplaces and other nontraditional shopping channels, combined with shifting demographics, are upending industrial distributors’ inventory-heavy model more rapidly than previously thought.

U.S. Cutting Tool Consumption Up 4.5 Percent

February U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $174.98 million, up 1.1% from January’s $173.05 million and up 0.6% when compared with the total of $173.88 million reported for February 2016.

Stanley Black & Decker to purchase Craftsman brand

The transaction provides Stanley Black & Decker with the rights to develop, manufacture and sell Craftsman-branded products in non-Sears Holdings retail, industrial and online sales channels across the U.S. and in other countries.

Price Increase - Dormer Pramet (PTD), effective January 2, 2017

Dormer Pramet is implementing an overall weighted average pricing increase of 1.9% to orders placed on or after January 2, 2017.

Price Increase - Mahr, effective November 28, 2016

Mahr is implementing a price increase on their Precision Gage products, effective November 28th. The increase will be about 2-3% on most items and Mahr’s normal grace period will start on November 28th and end on December 31, 2016. Existing blanket orders will be priced as originally assigned, but new blanket orders will be accepted at the new pricing.

Little change to construction, manufacturing jobs in October

Construction jobs grew by 11,000 during October, while manufacturers lost 9,000 jobs during the month. Mining and logging jobs also fell by 2,000 jobs in October. Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 161,000 in October and the unemployment rate was little changed at 4.9%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
